Reskill and Upskill to Stay Relevant
02 Aug 2022 • 3 min read
The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) is levelling up to support where it matters most, by providing individuals and companies with the necessary skill sets to maintain relevance in the digital age. MDEC aims to provide key digital training for those in need to join the digital bandwagon. There are a myriad of courses and training on offer in their digital training directory which include; software development, data science, cyber security, animation and game development. In addition, MDEC has also gone on a step further by highlighting the above mention job opportunities among others on a dedicated digital jobs platform.
According to Maria Khor, Head of Digital and Data workforce, MDEC “MDEC realises the importance of reskilling and upskilling the workforce, some of the initiatives that we spearheaded 3 main initiatives, the first was the Let’s Learn Digital initiative, a tie-up with Cousera workforce recovery program which was aimed at providing access to 3800 courses, to which we had about 20,000 people sign up. The second initiative is a digital job aggregation platform with Watts and Hays, 2000 job vacancies. The third initiative consisted of 173 digital courses facilitated by 43 partners curated by a panel of digital experts for employees of SMEs. The SME business owners can review these courses and send their employees for the relevant courses that will help the organisation in its digital aspirations”.
MDEC together with the government also provides additional support to SMEs via its SME digitalisation matching grant worth 500,000,000.00 over five years starting in the year 2020 and the Digital Accelerator (DX) program which looks at providing SMEs that are keen on taking the digital leap with the necessary support to ensure their continued success.
“My advice is that SMEs need to build a digital mindset that enables their business strategy, these SMEs should look at digital as more than a productivity tool, they need to choose the digital platforms that are in line with their current and future needs. They should consider training that will help their employees in a scalable and cost-effective manner by utilising the various eLearning platforms”.

Just these two alone are huge opportunities for the Malaysian people”.
